This explains what personal information Hectic Records collects when you use this website or place an order, and what we do with it. If you have any questions, email hecticrecordsbelfast@gmail.com.
When you place an order, we collect your name, email address, and — if you choose delivery rather than collection — your shipping address and phone number. This is collected directly through Square's checkout, not typed into our own site.
We don't ask you to create an account, and we don't collect card or payment details ourselves at any point — those go straight to Square (see "Payment" below).
We use your details to fulfil your order: getting your records to you, contacting you about a pre-order that's landed, and sorting out any issue with an order. We don't use your details for marketing emails unless you separately ask us to.
Checkout is handled entirely by Square, a payment processor. When you pay, you're on Square's own secure page, not ours, and your card details are never seen or stored by us. Square has its own privacy policy governing how it handles your payment information, available at squareup.com/legal/general/privacy.
Once a payment completes, Square sends us the order and delivery details, which we store using Netlify's infrastructure so our small team can see what's been ordered and get it shipped. This data may be processed on servers outside the UK as part of how these services operate, but is protected under those providers' own data protection safeguards.
While you're browsing, the items in your bag are stored directly in your own browser (not sent to us) until you check out. This means your bag is specific to the device and browser you're using, and clearing your browser's site data will empty it.
We don't use tracking or advertising cookies. The only thing stored in your browser is the shopping bag mentioned above, which is there to make the site work rather than to track you.
We keep order records for as long as reasonably needed for accounting, warranty, and consumer rights purposes, and then delete them. You can ask us to delete your information sooner, subject to any legal obligation we have to keep records of a completed sale.
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to ask us what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it's wrong, to have it deleted, and to object to how we use it. To exercise any of these, email hecticrecordsbelfast@gmail.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you think we've mishandled your data, though we'd appreciate the chance to sort it out directly first.
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
We may update this policy occasionally — for example if we start using a new service. The current version will always be posted here.
This page is a plain-English starting point and isn't a substitute for advice from a qualified solicitor or data protection professional — worth having it properly reviewed before relying on it, particularly as the shop grows or starts collecting more data (e.g. a mailing list).
